Just recently, the Charlottesville area was named the top wine region by Wine Enthusiast. To commemorate this accomplishment, we wanted to share a few of our favorite spots. Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or simply looking to unwind and savor the flavors of the region, explore the wineries not far from Wintergreen and Marley's Cabin.

Veritas Vineyard & Winery

Day trips from wintergreen: Charlottesville

Round trip and with these stops, you’ll spend about 2 hours and 45 minutes on the road during this day trip to Charlottesville from Wintergreen! While Monticello might be a nicer visit in warmer months, this is certainly a trip that that can be done year round.

Start your day with a visit to MarieBette, a fantastic European style baker. Their pastries and bread can’t be beat!
Only 15 minutes from MarieBette, take a tour of Monticello. Learn about the life and legacy of Thomas Jefferson, and tour the incredible grounds of Monticello. Make sure to reserve your tickets ahead of time.

After your visit at Monticello, head up the road about 15 more minutes to pick fruit atCarter Mountain Orchard. In the summer months, pick your own peaches. In the fall, don’t miss out on the apple cider donuts!
Interested in a wine visit on your trip to Charlottesville? Our favorite stop is Blenheim Vineyards, which is right up the road (about 20 minutes) from Carter Mountain Orchard. Lovely views, delicious wine, and beautiful grounds.

Romantic Weekend in Wintergreen

Did you know that in the short time we have owned Marley’s Cabin, we have had both a proposal and a wedding at the house? The proposal was a weekend full of surprises, starting with some champagne and a big question, and ending with best friends joining to celebrate!

The wedding was a very small ceremony and dinner (under our 8 person guest limit!) on the deck overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. Marley’s Cabin, and Wintergreen, are great destinations to sweep your significant other off their feet! Here are a few ideas to make your weekend super special...

Bubbly from a local winery. Greenwood Grocery has a wonderful selection of Virginia wines!
Dinner or brunch at Veritas Farmhouse
A picnic at a local winery. There are many options in the area! Afton Mountain Vineyards, King Family Vineyards, 12 Ridges Vineyard, just to name a few.
Enjoy one of the many great hikes around Wintergreen!
Hit the slopes together!
Relax at the Wintergarden Spa with a couples massage.

Featured Favorite: King Family Vineyards

When guests ask for recommendations, King Family Vineyards is always at the top of our list. Summer weekends bring horses, polo matches and a lovely Rose. Winters are for trivia nights, family movies, bold red wines and sometimes even yoga or salsa dancing.

King Family offers a number of options for tastings. You can do a self guided tasting or a staff led classic tasting to try some of the crowd favorites. For a reservation and small fee, try one of the more elevated options - a Founders Tasting or Reserved Tasting. The tours are awesome. We've taken several and learned so much on each one. Plus, we have had the opportunity to taste wines we haven't had before! (Make sure to try one of their SEVEN 2023 Governors Cup Gold and Silver Medal winners!)

You can bring your own food (we suggest dropping by Greenwood Grocery on your way to grab sandwiches or snacks!) or visit one of the food trucks there on Wednesday evenings, Saturday or Sunday.

Polo is an important part of the KFV experience. Matches are held at noon on Sundays between Memorial Day and mid-October. Get there early, gates open at 10 am, to grab your spot! The pros even offer lessons and clinics for both adult and youth!

KFV is pet friendly and family friendly!
