In the Wintergreen area, there are many spots to grab a quick bite on the go or to enjoy an evening out. Here are a few we enjoy! ​

On vacation and don’t want to cook? Wintergreen has some great options for on-mountain dining! 

• The Edge is the perfect spot to grab a burger and beverage, and often hosts live musicians evening and weekend.  
• Pick up a pie from  Upper Crust Pizza , located at the Mountain Inn.  Eat there or bring your pie home to enjoy by the fire!
• Looking for a bite to eat while on the slopes, check out Checkerberry Cabin. 
• For a more upscale dining experience, The Copper Mine is open Friday through Sunday, offering a breakfast and lunch buffet, and a la carte dinner. 
• The Market  has deli sandwiche s and pizza to go.  The Market is located by the Exxon near the Mountain Inn. 

A new addition to the mountain is Fire and Frost, located at the intersection of Blue Ridge Drive and Wintergreen Drive. Pizza and baked breakfast treats... YES PLEASE! ​

• After your visit at Monticello, head up the road about 15 more minutes to pick fruit atCarter Mountain Orchard. In the summer months, pick your own peaches. In the fall, don’t miss out on the apple cider donuts!  
• Interested in a wine visit on your trip to Charlottesville? Our favorite stop is Blenheim Vineyards, which is right up the road (about 20 minutes) from Carter Mountain Orchard. Lovely views, delicious wine, and beautiful grounds.

When guests ask for recommendations, King Family Vineyards is always at the top of our list.  Summer weekends bring horses, polo matches and a lovely Rose. Winters are for trivia nights, family movies, bold red wines and sometimes even yoga or salsa dancing. 

King Family offers a number of options for tastings. You can do a self guided tasting or a staff led classic tasting to try some of the crowd favorites.  For a reservation and small fee, try one of the more elevated options - a Founders Tasting or Reserved Tasting.  The tours are awesome. We've taken several and learned so much on each one. Plus, we have had the opportunity to taste wines we haven't had before! (Make sure to try one of their SEVEN 2023 Governors Cup Gold and Silver Medal winners!) 

You can bring your own food (we suggest dropping by Greenwood Grocery on your way to grab sandwiches or snacks!) or visit one of the food trucks there on Wednesday evenings, Saturday or Sunday. 

Polo is an important part of the KFV experience. Matches are held at noon on Sundays between Memorial Day and mid-October. Get there early, gates open at 10 am, to grab your spot! The pros even offer lessons and clinics for both adult and youth!

​Route 151 in Nelson County has become a destination for award winning breweries, wineries, cideries and distilleries. We wanted to share a little about our favorite breweries! Make sure to check calendars for each of these spots as you plan your visits. Many offer live music, "steal the glass" nights and other specials. 

​Devils Backbone is a great beer option, and a very popular spot! During the winter months, you can reserve fire pits to huddle around, and the summer months bring live music and festivals. DB is pet and family friendly, and you can often find games like cornhole sprawled out around the property! 

From 151, the parking lot at The Brewing Tree might look busy.  What you can't see from the road is the large meadow space behind the brewery that runs along the North Fork River. Enjoy beer, cider, hard slushies (yes... you read that right!) and plenty of non-alcoholic beverages. They also make their own kombucha from locally sourced ingredients.  The food options at the Scratch Kitchen come highly recommended!

​Hiking is popular in the Wintergreen area, and so we wanted to share a few of our favorites, close to Wintergreen and Marley's Cabin! 

• Sherando Lake - Less than 20 minutes from the house, Sherando Lake offers two hikes around each lake. Fall is beautiful (as seen in the video above) and perfect for peeping leaves, or visit in the summer and take a dip in the lake! (Open early-April - late-October. ) 

• Shamokin Falls - A moderately challenging hike about 3 miles long. Fabulous waterfall views!  
• Crab Tree Falls - Well known for being the highest vertical-drop cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River, Crab Tree Falls is a popular hiking destination. 
• Blue Ridge Tunnel is a hiking experience like none other. Check out the video on this page to learn more about the history and how to prepare! (Bring a coat and flashlight!) 
• Appalachian Trail - The AT has a number of access points in Wintergreen. Enjoy spectacular views of the south & Shenandoah Valley as you hike along the trail. According to the Nature Foundation, there is an access trail to the current Appalachian Trail on Laurel Springs Drive near Wolftrap Lane which also connects to the old trail as well. Use caution in winter.

• ​Skiing and snowboarding, of course! Wintergreen has some of the best snowmaking equipment on the East Coast, and they use it to make lots of snow on all 26 slopes/trails! Wintergreen offers terrain for first time skiers and riders to seasoned snow sport experts.
• The very popular tubing hill is the longest in Virginia. Reserve Your tickets early - they go fast!
• After a day of skiing, snowboarding and tubing, pamper yourself at the Wintergreen Spa with a massage, facial or mani/pedi. 
• Don’t miss après ski at The Edge! Located slope side, The Edge is the perfect spot to grab a burger and beverage, and often hosts live musicians evening and weekend. 
• Visit the local wineries, breweries, cideries, and distilleries on Nelson 151.
• Dine at one of the delicious locally owned restaurants! Grab pizza from Fire and Frost on the Mountain or check out Basic Necessities, a popular café in Nellysford!
